I have entered the code in a single line as shown above, but I am getting an illegal option error as shown above.

What am I doing wrong? As you can see, I maintained the same directory structure in Dropbox as it appears in the Applications directory. The database name is VIDAMS.
Any help will be much appreciated.

I'm wondering - why not copy the mysql\mysql*\data folder to your Dropbox folder. Then go into your my.ini file and change the location of the datadir folder to the new location. Then each machine you have XAMMP (or whatever your flavor) point to the dropbox data folder? Will this run into data corruption issue?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, everything looks right. I am attaching an image here of the resulting directory. rubytest_development still works properly, fbpanel_development does not appear in the list of databases, and when I try to access it directly it says unknown database.

Does this look right? Is it an ownership issue?

@ James - Troubleshooting:
1) make sure you're creating the symbolic link via the command line rather than by opt+cmd+dragging a folder in the Finder.
2) Check for typos
3) Check your slashes. The src should *not* have a trailing slash (e.g. "example_db") and the target should (e.g. "...mysql/")

Hey Steve,

This seems very interesting, but MySQL keeps saying the resulting symbolic link is an unknown database. I see it in terminal when I list the directory, and it looks like it's pointing to the right place, but MySQL doesn't seem to think it's a directory. Any thoughts?

It appears that you can connect to Google Cloud SQL using SQuirrel. So I am thinking there must be a way to make it work with MyQuery Builder as well????
